Hi there,
My last newsletter had some mixed feedback – one person asked if it was a joke that I thought LinkedIn could bring you joy! I get it, maybe that is a bit of a stretch for some people. But I do genuinely think you can learn not to hate it.
If you’re here for the first time, welcome and thank you for subscribing or ticking a box to say you’re happy to join my email list.
Spring has sprung, are you ready to spring in your career or business too?
I facilitated a session for a group of small business owners this week. It’s a regular, monthly event, where we build on a theme. This week, I asked them what they were going to spring forward with in their business.
With the change in season and the spring flowers appearing, there seems to be an increased optimism in the people I’m working with.
If you’ve been thinking about a change in job for a while, or a revised goal for your business, Spring is a great season to get going with it.
If you’re a regular reader of my newsletter, then you might know there’s a bit of a journey to have got you here. If you’re new, then have a look at the list of topics below and you can have a read of those. The purpose is to get you thinking about what you really want to do.
I’ve found a bit of clarity this month. I’ve realised a couple of things are not working as I wanted, and so I’m shifting around and revising the services I offer from my business.
Where are you right now? What is it you want to be doing?
My own spring forward has brought some clarity too. I’ve narrowed my focus to three areas:
- Working 1:1 with executives and senior leaders on LinkedIn. Showing them how to use it strategically rather than reluctantly.
- Running sessions at business schools and universities for people at the start of, or mid-way through, their careers who want to get LinkedIn working for them.
- Getting my book series into schools, colleges and universities, because the earlier you think about this stuff, the better.
If any of those sound relevant to you, or someone you know, I’d love to hear from you.
What support do you need to get there?
As often is the case, I had a supervision session today (where I talk confidentially about issues or concerns I have with my work), the same day I ran the business session.
The question my supervisor asked today was about what support do I need, and how do I make sure I get it.
Before the session, I went for a swim. I had the question swimming around in my head whilst I was in the pool (and the hot tub, and the sauna). And I came up with a new approach to use when approching business schools and universities.
I’ve got an idea in my head about who I can contact, and what I will ask of those people. It’s nothing too taxing, and I hope it might actually open a couple of doors for conversations. We will see.
So if you’ve worked out what it is you want to do next, who have you got in your network that can help you? And what specifically will you be asking? A targeted question or action, rather than a general note about what you are looking for could be the shift you need to spring forward with your plan.
