“I can’t see the point of liking, commenting or posting on LinkedIn.”
I get told this A LOT by clients who are looking for a new role.
I think it’s so important, and for the new people to this group, I hope this will help you!
I realise a lot of people don’t want to be visible, or don’t know what to write about.
Reasons to engage on LinkedIn:
🌟 Simply by liking posts you are raising your profile, your connections will start seeing your name pop up in their newsfeed, so they will be reminded of you (useful if you are job seeking).
🌟 You are letting the LinkedIn algorithms know what you like. If you like or comment on a post, you are more likely to see content from that person, or potentially about that topic in future. You are effectively training your newsfeed.
🌟 You are helping the person who posted in the first place. When you write a post on LinkedIn, it only goes out to about 3 – 5% of your network. It doesn’t go out as a blanket post to everyone. It’s a bit like a pilot, if that post gets engagement (likes, comments, shares) within about an hour, it gets pushed out further. So by you simply liking this post for instance, it would give me a wider reach.
🌟 If you are strategic in your likes and comments, if you focus on something to do with your work, and engage with content on that topic, every time someone sees your name, it will be in conjunction with that topic – so you’re creating a picture of yourself.
🌟 You are starting to create a community of people you can share knowledge with and ask questions of.
A bit more info…
LIKING/REACTING
You could choose which kind of reaction you want from like, love, curious, insightful, celebrate or support. Whilst these all essentially do the same thing, you are showing a little more thought as to why you appreciated the post, and the author can see who clicked which reaction.
COMMENTING
If you comment on someones post, you could start a conversation, other people might like what you have to say and join in. If you are going to comment, try to use at least 5 words, you can use the prompts LinkedIn gives you, but also add your view, don’t simply say you agree.
I think commenting on other peoples posts is more important than writing your own content (at least when you’re getting started).
POSTING
By posting, as well as building up that picture of yourself and your expertise or business offering, you can be indirectly advertising yourself.
I’ve found engaging on LinkedIn pretty powerful – give it a go!
