Where do you want to be in 12 months?

Where do you want to be in 12 months?

If you’re a subscriber to my email list, then in my welcome email, you’ll know that I included an exercise to help you reflect on your past. The idea was to identify the highs and lows throughout your career (and possibly your education) and uncover any recurring themes. If you’re not a subscriber, and you want to see those exercises, then please subscribe here. And then continue reading. This is newsletter edition number 1.

Looking back to move forward

Did you try the exercise? Most of my clients find it really useful because it’s rare to take the time to reflect on what they truly enjoyed (or didn’t).

The insights from this exercise can help you shape your future by identifying what you want to do more of. For me, that’s speaking at events, facilitating lectures and writing materials to help people get unstuck.

Turning passion into profit

Monetising these ideas is a challenge, though. So that’s my focus. I’m exploring creative (and less obvious) ways to generate income so I can invest more time in what I love.

Big goals or small steps?

Where do you start?

I ran a session yesterday on goal-setting, and the room was split 50/50. Some people set a 12-month goal and work backward to create smaller steps, while others focus on clearing small obstacles first to gain momentum.

I’ve chosen to set the big goal first and then create an ordered list of what needs to happen to reach it.

How do you approach goal-setting? Do you map out the destination first, or do you start by clearing the clutter?

Who you surround yourself with matters!

One of the books I read last year, Three Feet From Gold by Sharon L. Lechter and Greg S. Reid, reinforced the idea that the people you interact with and the content you consume directly impact your future.

I hadn’t thought much about this before, but now I make a conscious effort to connect with people I admire and learn from them. And thanks to a small book club I’m in, I regularly read books that support my personal and business growth.

The power of accountability

Another key tool that helps me stay on track is accountability. I’m part of four communities and a regular coaching supervision group, so plenty of people know what I’m working on and check in with me on my progress.

What keeps you accountable? Who do you have in your corner making sure you follow through?

Let’s chat!

I’d love to hear from you! Reply to this email and let me know:

  • What’s your biggest goal for the next 12 months?
  • Do you prefer setting the big goal first or tackling small obstacles?
  • How do you hold yourself accountable?
